Here at Mount Folly we have our own Ellepot machine on site. Consequently we are able to manufacture specialised propagating plugs for rooting our own stock.
The ‘Ellepot’ is made from a specialised biodegradable fabric which allows the fibrous roots to easily penetrate the container in which it transplanted. Therefore, the young plant establishes faster as no check is encountered in the growing process. It also allows us to use our own recipe of compost (fondly known as ‘Mount Folly Dirt’) depending on the variety being propagated.
Follyplugs are a convenient (and more economical) way of producing hanging baskets or mixed pots etc…
For a short period, early in the growing season, usually March, we have a selection of Patio Plant and Fuchsia plugs available off the shelf.
As they are small plants they have a limited shelf life so it is worth checking the availability before coming to the nursery.
We also grow our own miniplugs for our bedding plant production and like the ‘Follyplugs’ they are only available for a short period, early in the season.
Our miniplugs are 50% larger than the usual mail order companies, hence longer shelf life, more root and a bigger plant that establishes faster.
They are also hardened off at lower temperatures so less of a shock is encountered when potted on.
